Privacy notice

What we collect, why we have it, how long we keep it, and how to make us delete it.

1. Who is responsible

RAGEQUIT RATINGS is an independent editorial desk based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, publishing at ragequitratings.com. We decide what personal information this site collects and why, which makes us the organization accountable for it under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Questions, corrections and deletion requests go to [email protected]. A person reads that inbox and answers within five business days.

2. What we collect

Two kinds of information: what your browser sends automatically, and what you type into the form yourself.

Collected automatically

IP address, truncated where our tooling allows it.
Browser user-agent, language and approximate region.
Pages viewed, referring page, and time of the request (server logs).
Cookies and similar identifiers — set out in the cookie notice.
Advertising identifiers, where an advertising partner sets them and you accepted advertising cookies.

Given by you, in the subscription form

Email address — required, because it's how the issue arrives.
Name and phone number — optional. Leave them blank and nothing changes.
Your consent, and the date it was recorded.
A push notification identifier for your browser, if you allow notifications.

3. Why, and on what basis

Under PIPEDA we need your knowledge and consent to collect, use or disclose personal information, and we can only use it for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate. Ours are:

To send the issue. Express consent, given when you tick the box. Withdraw it and the sending stops.
To send push notifications. Express consent, given twice — once in the form, once in your browser's own permission prompt.
To keep the site up and safe. Server logs, on the basis of our legitimate interest in a working, non-abused website.
To understand what gets read. Analytics, only with your consent through the cookie banner.
To show advertising. Only with your consent through the cookie banner. Decline and you still get the whole site.

4. How long we keep it

Server logs: Up to 30 days, then deleted by the host.

Subscription data: Until you unsubscribe, plus 30 days so an accidental unsubscribe can be undone.

Push identifier: Until you revoke the permission in your browser or unsubscribe.

Consent record: Three years after consent is withdrawn — kept only to show that consent existed.

Analytics data: Up to 14 months, in aggregate.

Cookie choice: Stored in your own browser, not on our servers. Clear your browsing data and it's gone.

5. Who else sees it

We don't sell personal information, and we never have. It is shared only with the service providers who make the site function, each acting on our instructions:

OneSignal — our email and push notification processor. If you subscribe, your email address, any name and phone number you chose to give, your push identifier and the tags recorded with your sign-up are processed by OneSignal on our behalf, on servers in the United States. They may not use it for their own purposes.
Our hosting provider — stores the site files and keeps the server logs described above.
Analytics and advertising partners — only if you accepted those cookies. They may process identifiers and page data under their own notices.

Some of these providers are outside Canada, mainly in the United States and the European Union. While your information is in another country it may be accessible to that country's courts and law enforcement under that country's law. We choose providers who commit contractually to protect it to a comparable standard.

6. Your rights

Under PIPEDA you can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, what we've used it for and who we've disclosed it to; to correct it if it's wrong; and to withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual limits. In practice:

Unsubscribe — the link at the bottom of every issue, no reason required.
Push off — revoke notifications in your browser's site settings at any time.
See or delete what we hold — email [email protected]. We reply within five business days and act within thirty.
Cookies — change your mind by clearing this site's storage; the banner returns.

If our answer doesn't satisfy you, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) — 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 1H3, or at priv.gc.ca. Your provincial privacy commissioner may also be able to help. You don't need our permission to complain, and we'd rather you did than stayed unhappy.

7. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the subscription list is limited to the three people who run the desk, each with their own credentials and two-factor authentication. We hold as little as possible, which is the only security measure that never fails.

No system is perfect. If a breach ever creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as PIPEDA requires — and we'll say plainly what happened.

8. Children

This site is written for adults choosing games to install. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we'll remove the record.

9. Changes to this notice

If we change what we collect or who processes it, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. Material changes to how we use subscription data will be sent to subscribers by email before they take effect.
